Iceland Airwaves 2016 Preview: Oyama (LISTEN)

We’re headed to Airwaves to cover Iceland Airwaves Music Festival and other cultural stories beginning Sunday, 10/30! Follow along on our adventures via our Iceland Airwaves 2016 daily blog and hear a preview interview with a band performing at the 2016 Iceland Airwaves Music Festival below.

A dreamy noise-rock band channeling inspiration from the ’90s alternative music scene, Oyama presents captivating tunes that echo through the minds of listeners long after the song has ended. This five-member group has two album releases under their belt, an EP called I Wanna and an LP called Coolboy, with a new release anticipated for 2017. Guitarist and vocalist Úlfur Einarsson talks about the band’s shoegaze influences, the formation of their elaborate soundscapes and the writing of their meaningful lyrics.

Hear Oyama’s “Overflow” from Coolboy.

And their atmospheric song “Lung Breathers.”

Oyama will perform at Gaukurinn on Friday, November 4 at 12:30 a.m. for Iceland Airwaves 2016.
