Iceland Airwaves 2016 Interview: Lara Runars (LISTEN)

We’re headed to Airwaves to cover Iceland Airwaves Music Festival and other cultural stories beginning Sunday, 10/30! Follow along on our adventures via our Iceland Airwaves 2016 daily blog and hear a preview interview with a band performing at the 2016 Iceland Airwaves Music Festival below.

Lára Rúnars, an Icelandic artist, has been working for women’s empowerment since 2003 when she started her career as a musician. Her organization, Konur Í Tónlist, or KÍTÓN, meaning “women in music,” formed as a movement after only 7% of the artists nominated at the 2013 Icelandic Music Awards were women. Rúnars and KÍTÓN have worked tirelessly for improving women’s exposure in the music industry and changing the role women play in music. Her dreamy music takes shape as her actions for women’s rights build strength in the Icelandic Music Industry.

Check out KÍTÓN’s upcoming events on their Facebook Page.

Rúnars will be playing Wednesday, November 2 at 8:00 PM at Nasa.
