Welcome to Iceland, a country that was created on the whimsical history of Vikings, Norse Gods, and magic. With the pride of their past, Icelandic natives still dive into tradition, embracing the past that has made Iceland into what it is today. Part of Iceland’s past that resonates into today’s culture is the magical stave. Whether it’s used in the graphic designs, jewelry, or tattoos, magical staves have continued to live on in the cultural scene of Iceland. Both Fjölnir Bragason of The Icelandic Tattoo Corporation and Gísli Sigurdsson of the University of Iceland touch of the phenomenon of magical staves in 20th century Iceland.
